Buddha Teas Review
Recently, Buddha Teas reached out to me on Instagram and asked if I would be willing to review their tea on my blog and it took me all of 2 seconds to say yes. If you didn't know already, I love my tea...honestly, there's really not much better than a hot cup of tea...it seriously is good for the soul. Plus, they noticed that I am a runner and mentioned that they carried a tea called "Zenergy Blend" that would help to provide energy before runs and how could I turn that down! I immediately got back in contact with them and they asked what my likes and dislikes were when it came to teas. I love that they took the time to get to know me better so that they could surprise me with some good tea options that would fit my style. While I waited for them to arrive in the mail, I did some research on Buddha Teas so that I could learn more about the company. I learned that all of their teas are healthy teas and are all USDA Certified Organic, plus all of their tea bags are bleach-free. Anyone who really knows me knows that I am very much a fan of healthy, natural, organic, and clean ingredients so this was a definite plus in my book. Also, they sale a great variety of teas...black teas, herbal teas, specialty teas, green teas, root teas, etc...the list goes on and on. No matter your taste preference, you are bound to find a tea that you love. Last, but not least, I loved the fact that on their homepage they provide some tips and notes on tea in general that help to educate customers, which honestly helps people to appreciate the beauty of tea even more.
Well, it was probably less than a week into them contacting me that I received my tea in the mail and honestly, I was expecting to get a few sample bags of tea to try; however, they sent me 2 full sized boxes of tea. Thanks for the love, btw! I received a box of their Genmaicha Tea and a box of their Zenergy Tea.
When they asked me what were some of my likes, I told them that I am quite fond of green teas. When I saw that I received their Genmaicha Tea I was quite excited because (one) it was a green tea and (two) it was a green tea that I have never personally tried myself. Before trying this tea, I read that this tea provides the taste of green tea leaves mixed with roasted grains of brown rice. According to their website (buddhateas.com), "Every time you enjoy a sip of genmaicha, you provide your body with all of the positive qualities green tea has to offer. With a boost in B vitamins and minerals like manganese, calcium, iron and potassium, it is a great way to increase your daily nutrition." Who knew such a small bag of tea could pack such a big nutritional punch?! I must admit though, that at first I was a bit skeptical on if I would even like the taste of this tea with the combination of the green tea and the roasted grains of brown rice. I mean I eat brown rice often, but mixed with the flavor of green tea I wasn't quite sure about what I was getting myself into. Boy was I worried for no good reason! I ended up loving the strong roasted flavor. I'm usually not a fan of overly sweet teas (I don't normally sweeten my teas) or overly strong flavors, but the strong roasted flavor Genmaicha Tea offered was a very pleasant surprise and I found myself looking forward to each new cup of Genmaicha Tea that I made. I liked to add just a bit of freshly squeezed lemon juice to it and perfecto!
The second box of tea that they sent me was the Zenergy Blend. I was secretly hoping that they would send me a box of this one : ). You will find this particular tea on their website under the "Premium Blends" tab. Green tea is the base of it and it is complimented with other flavors/herbs/roots, such as organic ginkgo biloba, organic ginger root, and organic maca root to name a few. As an a distance runner, the fact that this tea contains maca root was a plus for me. Athletes have been known to take maca root supplements to help increase stamina and energy. As someone who consumes little to no caffeine, I enjoyed the energy boost I got from drinking this tea in the morning before my workouts while at the same time having a lower caffeine alternative to coffee. I also started to drink this tea at night time after getting the kids to bed. I know, I know you're thinking why on earth would you drink something at night that is going to help energize you and keep you going. You see, I am a stay at home mom who is also back in school so as tired as I am an night, this is also my time to get my studying in. Yes, I pull some LATE nights during the semester...it is what is is and you do what you gotta do, right? Okay, I'm getting to a point...I promise. I gave up drinking caffeinated coffee over 6 years ago and switched to an occasional cup of decaf coffee (I'm talking like I only drink a cup of coffee...decaf...maybe once every 2 weeks), but since starting back in school last summer I also started allowing myself to have an occasional cup of regular caffeinated coffee on some nights during the semester because quite frankly it's the only way I'm able to stay up til 3 or 4 in the morning studying or writing papers. Like I said earlier...you do what you gotta do; however, the down fall to having a cup of regular coffee in these late hours (or I guess technically early hours) is that I sometimes having trouble falling asleep due to the caffeine. My body is not used to having caffeine (aside from the minimal amount I get from drinking tea) so as much as it helps me to stay up and study, it also has a downfall. Well this past week instead of having a cup of traditional coffee, I decided to switch it and give the Zenergy Blend a try. I noticed that I was more alert while studying late at night (just like regular coffee has been helping me), but I also noticed that it didn't cause me to have trouble falling asleep once I was done studying. It's a win-win for me! I seriously am now a fan of Zenergy Blend tea!
After trying these two teas throughout this week, I am definitely a believer in Buddha Teas. If you have never heard of them before, well now you have and I'm telling you...give them a try...you won't be disappointed!
Much love,
~Christina~
