I'm back ; )!

Hi y'all! I know, I know...long time no see, but now that the holidays are over hopefully I can get a bit more regular with posting on here. I'm still in the learning process here with blogging, but hoping to gain more knowledge as time goes on and that this whole blogging thing comes to me in a much smoother fashion. I knew starting off my blog fairly close to the holidays would throw me off a bit, but I'm just glad I finally started it. Hoping everyone who reads it will enjoy it as much as I enjoy sharing our adventures along the way.
As I type this, I am drinking a nice cup of warm tea (big time tea drinker here!) and enjoying the peace and quiet (a rarity around my house lol) since the kids are asleep...praise the good Lord ; ) (hey don't judge). Since I've been MIA for the past month, I'm going to catch you up a little on what has been happening with us. First of all, I had another race since the last time I posted.  I ran in the Race 'Round the Base 10 miler at Langley AFB on December 14, 2013. That ended up being a great race experience for me.  You see, whenever I race I always set several different goals. A good goal, a great goal, and an ideal goal...based on the different factors going into that particular race...such as how am I feeling, weather, and course.  By good, I mean one that I know for sure that is obtainable. By great, I mean a step up from that....and by ideal, I mean a step up from great.  This way, if I don't have a great or ideal race then I know for sure that at the very least I will end up having a good race...I don't think you can have "bad" races because no matter the outcome, you can always learn something from a race. The morning of the race, I was feeling good and I got a decent amount of sleep. It was cold, but not unbearable cold, and the race course was flat; therefore, my ideal goal was to PR at this race. As nice as it would be, it would be great to always PR, but that's not realistic lol...that's why I have my 3 goals...but a girl can hope, right? ; )  Anyways, the race started and I felt great. I made myself go at a comfortably hard pace for roughly the first 4 miles and after that I picked it up for the last 6 and I finished strong. I ended up PR'ing (achieved my ideal goal for this race) and taking first place women's finisher overall. At the end of the day, I could really care less what place I finish in because I just want to run a good race for ME...but that was icing on the cake...especially because the first place (men and women's) trophy was pretty darn cool ; )! It was a mini F-22 plane!

A few days after my race, we left to Texas to go and visit my family for Christmas.  I was super pumped about this trip because 1. I am a Texas girl...always have been and always will be...I love me some Texas ; ). 2. I hadn't been home to visit my family in almost a year and a half...probably the longest amount of time for me. 3. I was excited for some Tex Mex food...granted as a vegan there's not a whole bunch I can eat at a Mexican restaurant since I don't eat meat or cheese, but just being able to be there with my family and have a beer and some chips and guacamole makes me happy! Thank goodness I run and workout like I do because I can't lie...I like food lol! Besides the fact that we had to do a ton of driving around...sometimes vacations don't always seem like "vacations" lol...since everyone wanted to see us and the kids, the trip went well. Call it controlled chaos ; ). Here are a couple of pics from the great state of Texas : ).

So, all in all, we had a crazy and fun holiday season. Hoping you enjoyed this mini recap of our holiday and hoping all of y'all had a blessed one as well : )!
